axle upgrades for a 99 tj

So im looking to upgrade my axles. I have a few good contacts that can get them for me cheap but just dont know what i want. I only want to do it once. I have a good friend that owns a few scrap yards who deals w/ junk yards all the time and can get me a great deal. I have a good friend that has a full on machine shop to fab anything i need. I also might have a motor upgrades in the not so distant future. My question is what's best bang for my buck and what to get them out of. Im in no real rush so finding exactly what i want is the important part, just not sure what i want. I plan on running 35-37" tires. Any suggestions will be helpful. The way she sits now 5.5" superflex lift and 31" tires. 4.0l motor. stock everything else

You will probably find the Ford 8.8 to be best bang for your buck. Check out the sticky about the 8.8 swap. Lots of good info there.

What was their setup? What were they doing?

The 8.8 is a stout axle...but if their setup exceeds the limitations of the axle or they are being stupid, stuff can break...just like anything else.
