back hinge opens hard

On my 98 Wrangler, the back tail gate has to be forced open as the hinges have been corroded shut or something. Does anyone have any ideas on something to soak these in or how to disassemble them to clean? Don't want to replace unless I have too

mine was just like that,i learned the hard way. the last thing you want to do is remove the hinge from the body. the torx bit bolts dont move, and you have to drill them out, only to be left with a frozen stud in the tailgate. what i did on my second set of hinges was to drill two 1/8 holes in the hinge itself evenly spaced between top and bottom of the hinge, heat it up with a heat gun and spray it with wd40 while working it back and forth, works great. good luck.

Mine were stiff when I bought it too, soaked them with PB Blast and they are much looser now. Then I removed the spare and it just flies open now!

PB blaster works much better and lasts much longer than WD40.
PB is made for loosening rust. WD is a water displacer.

Where can I get this PB blaster? I have never heard of it, but everyone here swears by it.

Most any parts store has PB blaster. Even Walmart has it.

just a quick question, don't mean to threadjack, but thought this would be a good place to post since we're talking about lubes. i think my power steering pump bearing needs a good lubing, as it makes a super loud squeaking when i first start it. it goes away when i spray some wd-40 in behind the pulley.

anywho, the wd 40 doesn't last too long, and i was thinking of getting a can of spray white lithium grease or something to spray in there. any other ideas?

and i don't think it matters, but i'm talking about a yj power steering pump
