It's either 5.25" or 5.5" which is too much backspacing for a tire wider than about 11".

Actually, the TJ version MOAB wheels are 16x8 with only 5" of backspacing... still too much.

Is that what the Rubicon uses? I thought all Wrangler wheels had 5.25 to 5.5" all these years, good to know. At least with only 5", he could run a 32x11.50 tire size which the other amounts can't.

Yes, TJ Rubicon wheels aka Moab's have only 5" of backspacing. If it weren't for the fact that they were 16's I would have gotten some instead of my current wheels.

What is the optimal backspacing if I wanted to run 32x11.5 or 33s on a 2.5 inch lift

I'd prefer not more than 4.5"... I'm running some 15x8 wheels with 3.25" of backspacing and they stick out about3-4" past the stock flares. Although Rubicons do have a slightly wider stock fender flare.

Mine are 15x8 3.75 bs and I get no rubbing at all with 33x12.50's. 6" flares almost give me full tread coverage.
