BAD SQUEALING...think its a/c clutch..help?

Hey guys....got my 98 wrangler 4.0 yesterday and am loving but its been smelling a bit weird as i've been driving and today, started squealing and it seems to be coming for where the a/c compressor and clutch are. Now of course the serpentine won't turn without that IF thats the problem. Any body had this problem or think that sounds like the culprit? Thanks

Might be the serpentine slipping - try spraying some belt dressing on it - available at most auto part places. That would be the easy fix - or, you've got a pulley bearing seizing - ouch...

Good luck...

Hey Journeydog. I took the serpentine off, and sure enough it was the pulley for the air compressor. I went to used parts junkyard and they had one, so dropped 100 bucks for it, went back and released pressure on old one, changed it out, vacuumed the new one, charged it, good to go! I had a fellow mechanic help on the charging and all that. Got that job done for just a little over a hundred bucks. Not bad.
