ball joint question

ok, ive looked around the web for this answer, and cant find anything on it yet.
im replacing all 4 of my balljoints on my rubicon, and i notice the top ball joints
are a bit off center. is there a position they are supposed to be mounted in?
i popped mine out before noticing this (im an idiot for not doing one side at a
time, i know better!) by this i mean, should the off center bolt be more towards
the wheel, or frame, or front or back? or maybe, it only goes in one way,
and i havent noticed this yet?

A few questions seeing as a ball joint replacement is in my very near future.... How difficult was it to dismantle everything? What brand are you using and where did you get them?

overall it was pretty straightforward. remove wheel, rotor, axle.
pop steering knuckle off (i have a pickle fork, but could do it without ),
pop out ball joints.
i just grabbed the mid level from autozone. like, $36 each? they had lifetime warranty.
the low end ones were about 25 each, one year warranty. i didnt go with moog stuff,
the ones they had and i looked at had really bad flash leftover on the parts, and i was
a little apprehensive about that batch of parts. many people swear by them tho, it was
just my reaction to what i saw.
definately get the ball joint press, i dont think i could have done the job without it! (was
free rental at the parts store)
i probably didnt need to replace anything yet, but all the seals were blown,
and i couldnt grease them without the grease just flying out all over the wheels while driving,
so im sure their life was limited. i had the cash and time, and it was warm weather still
if you can, its not a bad time to go ahead and do tie rod end replacement at the same time.

i did check around for pricing, 25 was cheapest nd lowest warranty, and i saw Napa had some
for like...$125 or something! no idea why so much, i didnt call about those. but 25-69 was the
average price for both upper and lowers. i didnt check online stores for pricing, since it was
that easy to hit a local store and no waiting.

From what I have heard when I was trying to align my jeep there is something called an offset ball joint and a camber kit u probably have one of the 2 look them up or go to ur local auto parts store n they'll show u a pic ... The part itself is at an angle so this is probably what u got ...

I took my YJ in for a front end alignment and the people at Goodyear checked and the camber and caster were off. (thats the angle of the wheels from top to bottom) I had to buy offset balljoints to fix this problem. They gave me a printout of how many degrees it was off on each side. The offset joints have a guage that comes with them (a piece of plastic that goes over the ball joint with the degrees listed on it so you can align it right, but you can't do it unless you know how bad it is off.
