Ball joints

The haynes manual say's you need a speical tool and dosn't cover removal or installation. Is it possible to do your self ?
Also i'm not sure if i even need to replace them . I raised the Jeep and tried to shake the wheels top to bottom with no play. what do you guys think ?
I hate inspection time they always try and ripe you off.

there is a special tool called a ball joint press, it can be rented at the parts stores, some do it for free. they are not that hard to do.

if you raised the vehicle and felt no play you may wanna get another opinion. you also need to put a large pry bar under the tire and pry up when the tire is off the ground and look for play that way.

or i just thought of this, just go back to who told you that and ask to be shown the bad ball joints, they can't charge you for that.
