Battery Temp. Sensor

I was repacing my battery yesterday and noticed the tray was corroded so decided to remove it to clean up and repaint. I noticed the battery temp sensor and found info on this forum about what it is for. My question is how to discconnect it so I can remove the tray. While searching I found one response was to squeeze the side tabs. For the life of me and I cant get it apart and dont want to break it. Thanks in advance.

There is enough slack in the temp sensor's wiring under the tray to remove the tray and then disconnect the sensor. At least there was on my '04 when I pulled the tray to install new fenders.
