BB installation

Anyone wanna take the time to give me a quick run through of a BB installation?? I am pretty mechanically inclined and am pretty sure that I can figure it out on my own, but knowing any little easier way that someone else has found is always great!! If you know where there is a little write up about it that would be great too. Thanks a lot!!

just put one on 2 days ago. put jack stands under frame take off tires swaybar end links and shocks jack up oned side of axle. i used the king nuts on bottom of knuckle. driverside front is the only spring with a retainer clip. I had my jack stands as tall as they would go and had to jack the axle so the opp. side would just hit ground it was just enough room to get spacer in. then reistall everything. The rear is also the same. I did have to get a spring compressor from autozone to get the rear springs in with the spacers in. Any perticular ??? i didn't answer email me @ jma91678@aol.com and i'll give you my cell number and walk you through any ??? I am mechanically inclined and didn't have much difficulty outher than all the lowering and jacking up it was nerve wracking for a first timmer Good Luck. and let me know how it goes.

go to AutoZOne or Checkers(whatever its called where you are) and rent the Coil Spring Compressors(like $40) and it will make the job much easier, epecially if you have an air gun.

i installed 3 BBs till now. i needed about 2-3 hours for the first and only 1.5 hours for the last install (including new shocks).

you don´t really need a spring compressor. i did it in this way andit was no problem.

Well i got it put on today. Wasn't that bad, took me about 2 hours by myself. The only trouble that I had was putting the last spring back in on the drivers side rear. the passenger side rear took about 5 minutes and i had to fight with the drivers side for at least 45 minutes. I didn't have a spring compressor but I would highly recommend it for onyone attempting this! Rachet straps would work as previously stated but all i had was the type you pull tight and somehow i made them work for the front.

then you were very fast i think. did you put in some longer shocks at the same time?

where are some pics of your lifted jeep...???

with the stock car jack between the axle and the frame i pushed the axle down a few inches. so it was very easy to get the springs in again.

No i didn't put in new shocks yet. I will post some pics tomorrow but it's dark out and i couldn't get a good pic now. That is a really good idea about using the stock jack, I used my knee. It would have been really handy to have another pair of hands at some points in the install but overall not too bad.

if you drop the track bar at the axle installation is simplified so much. It lets the axle pivot freely. I can toss in some pucks around 30 minutes or so. The rear is really easy.

Yeah but look what you have done to yours!! You could probably dissassemble and reassemble the whole jeep in about 4 hours blindfolded!! Is the track bar the piece of metal mounted towards the front of the rear axle and somewhere up under the body?? If so i thought about undoing it to let it drop the rest of the way down and it would have been much easier!!

You have front and rear track bars. They are perpendicular to the frame to keep them centered. There is one axle mount and one frame mount. This is a front track bar....

You're kidding right? Have you seen his hunk of junk lately? I'm really starting to think he doesn't have a clue what he's doing. He just web wheels all day long on here trying to figure out how to change his own oil.

BAWHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I crack myself up!!!!

Maybe that is the case!! I haven't seen it together lately!! I can't wait to see it together again. Oh yeah, I indid the shock and I guess what is the track bar. Do you know what I was talking about on the piece that mounts to the axle and is more square shaped?? It looks like it would have made it easier if i undid it.

ok, on the front i undid the sway bar connects and unbolted the shocks and had a little trouble getting the springs back in. On the back i undid the track bar and the shock and the first side was cake but the second really sucked. Don't really know why there was so much difference. Undid the same things on both sides.

I prefer "super" hero.

No problem. I've been there too. And somedays I'm all the back where I started.

I will have to check out that website, seems like i could learn a lot from them. I can't believe how many websites there are out there and how much time they take to show pictures and detail how to do things.

On the back are you talking about the track bar or the sway bar? The track bar has two different mounting points - one on the axle (drivers side) and one on the passenger side (frame).

It is all pretty much exactly the same as the front.

and I might not be in such a big hurry to get my junk finished since I still have a completely over built jeep to play with when the wife lets me borrow it

Funny story from this evening.

We went to rent a movie. I was driving her jeep. On our way into the parking lot I parked in a spot away from everyone else as I usually do. Tonight is no exception since there is at least 6" of snow cover everywhere! We see a guy in a crew cab F250 come into the parking lot and skid his brakes almost into another car. He backs up and tries to make the turn and almost clips another car. I tell Anya to wait for him to pass. He circles the parking lot and comes around again. I wait at the entrance to the movie place to make sure he doesn't hit the jeep.

We get inside and make our selection when I hear, "Is that your red jeep outside?"

I fear for the worst cause I know this is the same douche that was circling the parking lot. I turn and look at him with a disgusted look on my face. He can immediately tell I'm pissed. He says, "Don't worry. I didn't hit it! But I did come really close and now I'm afraid of moving or I might hit it"

ME: "Hmm, imagine that!"
SA: "What are you trying to say man??"
ME: "You know exactly what I'm trying to say"

So he turns around and acts like he is looking at movies.

When we leave he is seriously 3 inches away from my front fender. I kinda wish he had hit it so I could have a good reason to get some tube fenders. So I hop it in 4lo and gently move out of the way.

What a jerk. The people who drive those damn things have no business buying them.

We have all the Suburban driving soccer moms here who think they're invincible in them no matter what the weather is like. In high scholl one of them ran me off the road and into a telephone pole. All but totalled my car and the bitch just drove off!
