blinker/turn signal malfunction

im not very experienced with working on cars and i had a squeak in the steering wheel on my 97 so i popped the wheel off and was going to grease it up there but i went online just to make sure i was doing the right thing and it turns out i wasnt so i pieced all the airbag and steering box cover and wheel back together and now the lever in the steering box for the foglights and blinkers isnt working right and feels like it needs to be oiled or something because it doesnt operate smoothly. and whenever i try to use the blinkers or hazards, the green arrow indicators dont show or blink on the dash consistently and only work if the lever is positioned certain ways and same with the lights themselves.. help!
