Blinkers are freezing up on me

My blinkers both left and right will freeze up and the arrow light is on and the actual blinkers are on they just aren't flashing. It just started about an hour ago does anybody know why this is happening?

My old TJ did that to me. It started doing it after a rainstorm w/ the top off. I took apart the column and the turn signal lever housing and cleaned it all out and put it back together. Mine had some corrosion inside the controls.

Might also want to check you blinker fluid.

It's more than likely a faulty flasher. Depending on the year of your TJ, it's either up under the dash just right of the steering column or it's on top of the steering column, under the plastic behind the steering wheel and in front of the instrument cluster.

No, its not my blinker fluid I change it every 150,000 blinks

My Jeep has been in a few storms with the top and doors off, does it work now that you cleaned it out?

Yes, but I'll warn you, it was a tedious job. If there's a possibility it might be the flasher, I'd do that first.

i have the same problem, only when i have my headlights on, the left arrow stays lit, and then randomly the beep will sound, the one as if your engine is over heating or something.

nice.

mine stays lit on the left by default, but once i turn the left blinker on, it works but blinks fast.

if you turn the right blinker on, it blinks fast, and when you turn it off, they both stay lit now with no blinking.

the hazards operate normally.

i havent checked the wiper/temp thing that should be interesting.

also my oil pressure sender seems to be on the fringe. off and on it will be at 0 at idle, but rises with rpms, and other times it works fine, and other times it sticks straight up.

Go to the side that the arrow is showing, If your blinker on that same side is not flashing, check the bulb then the connector.

welcome to the site gatorbait

so my problem is its blinking on both side markers, but both front markers arent blinking (the ones on the grill). the bulbs work because they come on when you have the headlights on.

but they dont blink.

i didnt think they were supposed to blink but the inspection guy said yes they are.

the rear signals blink but blink fast, and the front sides blink but blink fast. teh hazards blink normally
do you think its the connectors?

i did notice someone had cut them at one time, and used crappy electrician twist caps to reconnect, and here it snows alot so im sure salt, sand, mud, snow, and rain got all up in the connections.

i reconnected one side just by cutting the wires and reconnecting them, then electrical taping them.

should i undo it and put new connectors on both sides?

i noticed the front left bulb was out before, and when i went to pull the bulb out it was all jacked up. like melted. i pulled out and tried to scrape most of the stuff out. put the new bulb in and it works fine for the most part. just doesnt blink.

the other side also doesnt blink, and has been cut and reconnected also but i havent messed with it yet.

another thing i noticed is i keep blowing brake light fuses under the glove box

i have the feeling the guy before you wired them wrong. They have 3 wires and 2 levels of brightness. 1 ground.. the other 2 control the brightness. 1 low which is suppose to be on all the time your running on headlights are on and then the other one is only for the blinker. I dont know for sure but i assume he wired them wrong so the bright is always on which could generate the heat to melt the housing.

I'm obviously just thinking out loud but that would be a good thing to check.

Also when you do get a new housing, make sure you double check the light bulb numbers with the people at autozone. Dont rely that the person before u put the right bulb in. For example my first car back in highschool. The previous owner decided that a 1 brightness level bulb would work just as well as the 2 level bulb is suppose to.. well until i figured it out, it would trip my abs unit even after i take out the key so next mourning either dead or very close to dead battery. Also because of that wrong bulb, with no key it would also go to ACC if i turned on the left blinker, the headlights on and to hi. I dont know how nissan wires those things but that was a freaking weird problem because of a light bulb. I replaced the bulb with a correct one and what do you know, everything is back to normal and no more dead battery.

thats crazy.

well i was just out looking at it wondering wtf.

both sides have been cut, not at the front parking light/blinker on the grill, but they cut both sides where they go out to the side blinkers.

i did fix the drivers side, but the pass side is still ghetto rigged with just twist cap connectors. and you can tell by looking at them that theres all kinds of moisture, salt and junk in there so im going to cut the wires just before and just after that connector, twist them up good, electrical tape them, and see if it helps.

also, going out to the side markers there are only two wires.

the light bulb situation is worth looking into as well. do you know the bulb number for the front blinkers?

Thank You, Sir. I hope I can help. On my LJ when the left blinker was on, the dash arrow would stay lit. The taillight and front clearance light would blink very rapidly but he left front turn signal would do nothing. With the headlights on the arrow would stay lit and a alarm would sound from time to time. Finally traced it to a bad connector on the left front turn signal. Replaced that and it works great.

Mine will be blinking along at a normal clip, then blink fast for about 15 seconds or so, then back to normal. Only on the left. Checked the blinker fluid and the Fallopian tubes, all checked out
