blower fan issues

1999 tj 4.0 no ac
Fan was only working on settings 3 and 4 then only 4 then stopped. Replaced resistor pack that didnt work so replaced switch as it was def. melted. Fan worked great for about a day. Now its back to only working on high. I put the old resistor pack in and that didnt work either. Checked the switch and it looks to be ok. I traced everything out and couldnt find any melted or bad connections either.

When the fan went out the first time I took it out and hooked it to the battery to check it and it worked. What I did notice though is there a good bit of drag on it. Its alot harder to turn that what I thought it should be. It stops instantly as soon as you take power away from it.

Could there be that much drag on the motor that its not allowing the first 3 speeds to work?

Anything else Im missing. Im not sure why it worked great for a day then went back to only high.

Thanks

Most of the time when a switch or resistor goes bad it is from a bad blower motor pulling too many amps. Not sure on 99 but I think it is same as 2000 and its easy to change the blower. Pull battery take out 3 screws on ECM and move it up a little and then 3 screws in the blower and unplug it and out is comes. Took me about 20 minutes to do on a 2000.

x1. If your new resistor is burnt that fast and your switch wiring was melted, more than likely your fan blower is drawing too much amperage and needs to be replaced, possibly in addition with a new resistor.

My brand new blower motor installed with new resistor and repaired wiring now only works on high and low speeds. I'm getting tired of replacing parts on this thing only to get a few minutes of operation.
Not bitter just tired.

Don't know if 99 is same as my 98 just had blower problems too my post was fan motor blues, but what I can tell you is the first 3 speeds on my run threw the resistor and the high speed is from the 40 amp fuses under the hood think it number 11 and into a relay behide glove box,you know is the right family relay it'll have five wire and one is green and one is brown/tan, black, light blue and I think red, and the relay was my problem and it been a few days and all is good so far

Can you pick the resistor up at any auto parts place or specifically from Jeep service?

Have you pulled and checked the fan switch?
