Blown engine

I bought a 01 TJ with 98k milesbut with a blown motor (sounds likebad diesel with a rattle problem when started). I'm looking for advice on whether I should have it rebuilt, buy new/used or do a V8 swap.

I live in the DFW area and I know a few shops that can do the work... Which brings another question... Does anyone know of good shops? I know of Jeeps Unlimited in Haslet and Texas Truxx in Denton but know little about these and other places. Any advice will bemuch appreciated.

I would just rebuild it yourself. Pretty straight forward work. A new engine will run you about 1500.

I have thought about doing a rebuild myself. Only downfall is, I don't have a place or know of a place I can do it.

Garage would of course be best, but just in the driveway would work too. Swapping it out would only take a couple days.
