Blown motor-need advice

I bought a 01 TJ with 98k miles but with a blown motor (sounds like bad diesel with a rattle problem when started). I'm looking for advice on whether I should have it rebuilt, buy new/used or do a V8 swap.

I live in the DFW area and I know a few shops that can do the work... Which brings another question... Does anyone know of good shops? I know of Jeeps Unlimited in Haslet and Texas Truxx in Denton but know little about these and other places. Any advice will be much appreciated.

I am getting ready to rebuild my 4.0l in my TJ right now. Actually going to build a stroker. In my opinion, I would stick to the original engine, as long as it is a 6 cylinder. I guess I should of asked that first.

It is a 6 cylinder. I wanted to do my own rebuild on it but I don't have the tools/space to do it myself.

Are you sure that's what the problem is? Hard you done a compression check, checked the oil, vacuum??? It could be a number of other thing before you rip into it. Not sure if you already checked those things, just throwing it out there
