If it ain't one thing it's another. It feels like I'm on a carnival ride. A rough one. I bounce up and down driving along the road. Would worn bushings cause that? Or is it something more sinister? I just want this dang thing to drive straight for once.
No idea on the shocks, never figured that could cause that. First time with a lifted vehicle, so everything is new to me haha. It's funny that you mention it, though, because I removed one off the side that's giving me trouble (before I noticed the problem) and it sounded like it had air in it. Very well could be it.
When a vehicle is lifted with poor quality components including stiff as Hades shocks, stiff sidewall tires that weigh huge each (like Super Swampers) and then air them up to the sidewall rating, well, boing, boing, boing down the road to grandmas house you go.
With all the time spent worrying and asking about the rough ride, I would have thought you'd have spent a minute or two to check your tire pressures by now. Overinflated tires are common from tire stores and that can easily cause a bone-jarring ride.
Well, that's exactly why I came here, because I never considered that a factor. Which I direct at my lack of knowledge towards this thing. But, I was able to find out other issues that were wrong in the process. But! I did check my tire pressure, and they're stiff as all get out (which I attributed to the cold weather), so I'm going to do what I presume you're leading to and let some air out to "cushion" things a little more. I'm also getting rid of the Swampers this weekend and going for BFG All Terrains haha thank y'all for the input!
Is your tire pressure top secret? I think I've asked what it is maybe 3 times now. 35's should be no more than 24-26 psi. 24 around town with the Jeep unloaded, 26 on the highway when the TJ is loaded with gear or passengers.
Does the ride start to smooth out after 3-5 miles? You state that you're running super swampers but didn't say if they're radial or bias ply. Bias ply will get spots when they sit over night and take a few miles to smooth back out. The set I had would beat you to death every morning, worse during the winter. Not saying this is what your experiencing but may be in addition to another problem such as the shocks.
That's a good question. I don't have the answer to that, but I'll definitely consider that when I look into it tomorrow. I'm selling them anyhow, not my kind of tire on a daily.
My 99 had aftermarket 17's on it with 10 ply 265/70-17 load range E tires on it. Rode like a wild bronc. Got a set of 31x9.50-15 two weeks ago, rides much better. Tires make a lot more difference than you think.
