Brake light gremlin

New to me 2001 TJ. The only way the right rear brake light will come on is with the brake pedal depressed and the left turn signal is on. All the other lights work normally. I'm leaning towards a defective turn signal switch since everything looks good up to the signal switch.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Well,
There's always the possibility that the MFS has gone bad or, is malfunctioning in some way. But, a very, very larger percentage of the time on most automotive problems, it's a problem with the grounding. Bad or, insufficient grounds can wreak havoc on an electrical system and, you can worry yourself to death when it's just a bad ground.

Now, does this mean that this is your problem, not sure. But, do make sure that your tail light on BOTH sides is properly grounded just to rule out this being the issue. Once you've done this, and your problem still exists, then move on to more technical attempts at repair.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've had the RR tail light assy off several times now and cleaned up the mounting bolts so I think the ground is good but I'll run a separate ground lead to it just to make sure before I replace the switch.

Hey, thanks for getting back here and posting the fix. So many don't do it and, those who've tried to help, never know what worked.
