Brake light is on and will not go out

Like the title says, my brake light on my dash is on and will not go out. The Jeep is a 99 Sport. I just bought it and the light has always been on. I did note that the front rotors and pads were recently changed. Also the fluid is new. The light does not get brighter or dim when the "E" brake is on or off. The brake pedal is soft but when pumped will firm up and hold. The Jeep stops ok but the spongy pedal and the light give some concern. I was thinking that it may have air in the line and just need bleeding but not sure. What do ya'll think?

2x...air was added to ur brakes when the fluid was changed which is why it feels spungy and gets harder when you pump it. That's what happens when some one doesnt quite know how to do stuff properly.

bleed the darn thing and see if the light goes out. Which light is it? 2x on abs question.

On my old car my abs light was on when i had air in my system, currently my tj has no abs and i'm glad abs is not standard. Its worthless in my opinion.

x3, its very easy to get air in the lines when pads and rotors are changed and it will give you the spongy to firm feeling in the pedal, happened to my durango which I had before my jeep. Is it throwing any codes?

Got it fixed

I know I started a different thread on this because I forgot about this one.

Anyway....I got the light to go out. First I tried the E-brake switch. $8 bucks and it stayed on. Damn I thought. Then...a friend of mine told me about the proportioning valve. It has the 5 lines comming out of it and is located just below the master cylinder. They are not sold anywhere but the dealership and junk yard. $140 ish at the dealership or $20 at a junkyard. Guess what I picked. So $20 bucks later it works great. I also changed the calipers and upgraded the lines to stainless steel. After the "new" valve the light works as advertised.

Oh and to answer the question of anti lock brakes.... no it doesn't have anti lock brakes.
