Brake warning light stays on

Ok, so the car was completely taken apart and put back together. Before that the light would go off.

Now it is constantly on. I have checked the fluid level, I have tried doing the hard braking trick (trying to reset the portioning valve), nothing seems to be working. I did not see any brake fluid leaks so I am all out of ideas.

The next thing would be to change the valve, but that is hard to come by here.

So I would really welcome some ideas/tips on what else could cause this.

PS: also I have noticed that the trick to show error codes on the odometer does not work for my car. It is a 97 built for Europe. The OBD port is also not working. Shouldn't at least the Odo trick work on all cars?

Obd port should work but who knows if exports complied with 1996 USA OBD rules

So exports ran leaded fuel so no oxygen sensors

Brake light is one of two things
Switch at base of park brake handle
Or
Piston in brake sensor off center

First determine which

Unconnected harness plug from proportioning valve area on front of brake master. If light stays on the problem is the e/park brake switch

If it goes out problem is piston off center

Hint if you reused old copper washers on banjo bolts at wheel end of brake lines they are work hardened and will not seal. Even with a tiny leak you cannot see you will get the light (been there done that) you bleed and bleed with no success

Old can be re annealed or get new copper washers every time you undo one of the banjo bolts

I had this issue when I swapped axles and bled the brakes. I unplugged the harness plug from the proportioning valve and noticed the valve had stuck open. Worked it back and forth a couple times and voila, started working again. That was 8 months ago and havent had an issue since.

How do you remove the wiring harness? It has a plastic clip, I removed that, but the wires go into a rubber sleeve, which I could not remove from the plastic part which goes into the valve. I was afraid to pull very hard on it, in order not to break it. Is there another way of doing this?

I have a 2005 that does the same thing from time to time. When I have to rock it because I get stuck in deep snow the brake warning light comes on and stays on for weeks then decides to go off. The mechanic said it is the equalizer valve that is sticking. It throws a CODE PO573. Sometimes it stays on until June or July but, everything is fine.
