Angry Broken adapter in cigarette lighter

I used to have a iTrip type thing connected into my cigarette lighter so I could play my iPod through my radio easily. The problem is, one day I was removing the adapter and a piece broke off and is lodged at the bottom of my cigarette adapter. Is there an easy way to remove this without taking my dash apart? I am trying to become more mechanically inclined with my Jeep but I am still learning and taking my dash off seems like something I would not be able to do alone. Thanks for any help. I can post pictures if needed. Hopefully someone else has had this problem

The center bezel is easy. Pop the top defroster plate up with a flathead screwdriver (it just pries up).

Under this defroster plate, your center bezel is held by two phillips screws, take those out. Now pop the center bezel off.

The cigarette lighter is held in by either 2 or 4 phillips head screws. Should only take you 5 minutes total.

If you just want to get a piece out of the cig lighter outlet, d/c battery and use needle nose pliers....

If you want to take it apart, do as instructed above, Its a 2 min. job.

I didn't even read your time quote, that's hilarious though.

Thank you for the advice! I took the dash apart as you suggested and it was much easier than I anticipated. I tried the needle nose pliers about a month ago and it would not work since the piece that broke was wedged in too tight. I just put it off until now to try to fix it. Now that I have the dash apart and the power supply charger separated I still cannot get the piece out of the adapter. Can I just buy a new adapter? How much would one of those cost. Also would maybe another tool help? It is wedged in so tight that the needlenoses cannot grip it. I am uploading pics right now to help show my problem so hopefully someone can help. Thanks again so far guys!!

Here is a picture of what I am dealing with. I can't zoom in to show the piece I want to remove but it is really hard to get out. Can I just replace the whole adapter unit piece? Anyone know where to get one or what the easiest way is to remove it? I tried to remove the adapter well and I could not and I brought it to the autozone and they couldn't figure it out either. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys

Up here in WNY we have a company called Howbills that sells used Jeep parts. I got an entire switch board from them when I converted to a hardtop.

Check local junkyards. They might sell you the whole switch.

Radioshack. get a "universal" power port. 6-12 bucks IIRC

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the help. One last question. If I go to radioshack and buy a universal power port, how do I remove the old one? I cannot get the old "adapter well" out of the dash piece.

I was able to pop my cigarette lighter out (2000 TJ). Now I have the whole assembly out to include the blue plug in on the end. I went to Radio Shack to ask about a universal power plug but they didn't have a clue. I would really rather put a power plug in the hole where the cigarette lighter came out of but I quess I will just see if I can find the whole set-up at local junkyard or Jeep dealership. Wouldn't I have to cut the plug off that plugs into the blue adapter if I use anything except original? Or does the blue plug come off and I can use it on aftermarket lighter or power plug? Thanks!

Take what you have to your favorite auto parts store. They carry the "universal" sockets. (Oreilly, autozone, napa) I think I've even seen them in truck stops.
But, it won't have the "blue thing" on the back, I'm pretty sure.

Does the "blue thing" fit onto the universal or do I need to cut off the one (male) running from the dash and just hard wire the new socket?
