Bump stop advice

I recently installed a 2.5" lift. I have the springs installed but am waiting for the new shocks to arrive so the jeep is sitting in the driveway waiting the rest of the parts. This was a mix and match lift I put together over the past couple months. I didn't do anything with the bump stops just left them stock. Is this going to be a problem with only 2.5" of lift or should I extend them? I have 2.5" and 1" BL, 1" mml and I plan on running 32" or 33" tires haven't decided yet. If I need to extend my bump stops can someone recommend what I should get or is it even necessary? What would be the outcome if I left them stock? Thanks!

I put a 2.5" lift on my YJ and it came with extended bumpstops. If you DON'T put them on, plan on replacing fenders after you drive a tire through one when you flex and put a tire all the way UP into the body. Either damage the fender or cut the crap out of a tire. The bumpstops keep the tires from over compressing the springs and hitting the body when you 'stuff' a tire.
I have a full set, new black bumpstops to get rid of...I ordered red and got black by mistake and didn't return them...front and rear for YJ....

So what is the proper extension length for a TJ with 2.5" of lift. I found some RE 1.5" extended bumpstops but I have no clue how much more length I need. I would like to mount them on the bottom of the perch if possible.

I would wait till you decided which size tire your goona use. Then after the tire install, jack up one of the tires so you can see if it will even hit the underside of the fender. If it gets to close, then you know you need an extended stop which you can then order and even if it takes a couple days to get, just keep it off the dirt till you get them installed.

ALso keep in mind that the bump stop protects your SHOCK ABSORBER...if you don't have enough bump stop length and 'stuff' that tire, if the shock is not long enough...
you will either force the oil out of the shock destroying it, or drive the shock right up through the mount when it bottoms out...destroying both the shock and the mount!
It doesn't hurt to have 'longer' shocks than needed, but it IS critical to have the bumpstops.
I am not an expert mechanic...not a clue about most of the stuff, but I would think if you measured the length of the original bumpstop and then add a lift kit-you would want a bump stop with same additional length (lift) added? I have a pair of new, unused bump stops to fit my YJ...and they are 5" long...for 2.5" lift. Seems to me when we dissasembled the original and took it off the frame the stock bump stops were only about 3"...hopefully one of the real hard core jeep guys will jump in and correct me if wrong!

Pretty sure I'm going to go with 33" tires. I figure it will be much easier to install the stops with everything apart rather than put the lift on, order the stops than take it all apart again. I have the OME shocks for 0-3" of lift.
