By passing AC unit

Just curious if there were TJ Sports without AC
and if so do they just have a shorter belt?

I believe my ac clutch is shut cause of this constant grinding/whistle noise i am getting out of that side and was just thinking about by-passing it with the belt and seeing if that is the real problem instead of buying all new parts

is this plausible?

Sure it is, if you don't want your A/C.

I dont need the AC right now
and I am just thinking that this would be a cheap easy way to find out if the noise is actually coming from the ac clutch/bearing or what not

so all i need to do is go get a belt for a 97 TJ Sport 4.0 with out air?

Yeah - and just pretend the AC isn't there; in fact you should have a routing diagram somewhere for both AC and no AC (sometimes this will be 'combined' into one diagram)

well in case anyone else was getting the same noise
that is like a constant metal rubbing noise
1st check the idler pulley.. take it off and clean out the mud

I 1st did the by passing of the ac unit
then still had noise so next step was the idler pulley
15.44 and changed it and no noise :}
