cant shake the sway!

Im getting annoyed...noone can figure out why my jeep is swaying so much...3 mechs and a dealer can't figure it out. Im going nuts! Can a rear track bar make me sway? Bushings? Too much lift? Its only at about 45mph and up...what can I do? Im not a mechanic and im lost...help please? Just got a new rear and that diddent help either...

My rear sway had a loose bolt that made it sway quite a bit. After I got it tight felt much tighter.

i've had the same issue but only starts at 60mph, and it was after i replaced the back tires. if its just a bolt i'm gonna be happy cause its been going on for a month.

Can you please give a more detailed explanation of what you are calling sway? Is the steering not stable when driving straight ahead or do you feel an unusually high amount of body roll while turning corners or driving around curves?

Are both the front and rear anti sway bars installed and connected? How old are your shock absorbers and do you know their brand name and their type or model?

When is the last time you had a front end alignment, especially the toe-in?

Final question, what size tires are you running and what air pressure is in them?

Let's see...they are both mounted and I have skyjackers...it is a highway loose steering kind of feeling like the jeep wants to go off and do its own thing...I let go of the wheel and the wheel turns too there is a lift of a suspension coil and a spacer is on as well guessing total of 4 or 5". They are stock moab wheels on 245/75/15 and was aligned 4 times last month. Has a drop pitman arm and stock everything else (control arms ect) only replaced front trackbar. New rear axle. (Was swaying before new axle)...

Not sure how old shocks?steering stablizer are and I have front sway quick disconnects. Could there be too much lift for the shock?

I'm on my way home so this has to be short, but the first thing that needs to be done is to replace that dropped pitman arm with the non dropped OE pitman arm.. That dropped pitman arm is definitely causing bump steer. And Skyjacker-what shock absorbers, hydro or nitro? What about your anti sway bars, you didn't answer the question on that. Or your tires and their air pressure.

Pretty sure they are hydro...and the tires im not sure the pressure but they are 245/75/16 and the wheels are stock moab wheels (rubicon) I have the pitman arm...is it hard to swap?

Not sure about sways...I know I have a swaybar in the front with quick disconnects

Only one big nut holds the pitman arm in place. But actually getting to pitman arm off after then that nut has been removed can be difficult because it has such a tight fit on the steering shaft. The combination of a pitman arm puller, heat, BFH, and liquid wrench usually works though.

Ok I don't know why that was installed in the first place...everything else is stock. How much lift before one is needed? Also could those spacers do anything to effect it

It's not suspension lift height that dictates the need for a dropped Pitman arm, a DPA is only needed when the steering system geometry says it is needed. For a TJ, that is usually when a dropped upper track bar mount has been installed which yours does not have. I had a 5.5" suspension lift (stock track bar mount) 7-8 years ago that did not need a DPA yet a 4.5" suspension I installed five years ago (with a dropped upper track bar mount) did need a DPA.

Oh ok so in all actuality it is hurting instead of helping? Is the dpa hard to get back on? Like does it have to line up a certain way? Any walk throughs?

It's not a DPA you will be reinstalling, that is what you're removing so you'll be installing a standard (non-dropped) Pitman arm. There are four ways a Pitman can be installed and three of them are obviously wrong, just place the replacement Pitman arm onto the steering shaft in the same position the old one was in... pointing straight back.

The nut that holds the Pitman arm in place is TIGHT so you'll likely need an impact wrench to get it off, and reinstalling it is best done with an impact wrench too. It needs to be tight. It's sounding like $40 to the local 4x4 shop to swap your Pitman arms might be a good investment.
