I recently swapped out the head with a new one (refurb from ebay). I assembled everything and it had a really rough idle and loud tick. No problem, just need to the the lifters prime. Wrong. I pulled the valve cover off and rechecked everything. One of the pushrods was bent. Ordered 8 more and replaced them all. She started right up and ran quietly. Well, about 30 mins down the road the ticking came back and a CEL. There was also a slight loss of power every 5-10 secs at consistent throttle. Grabbed my scan tool and it was throwing code P1297: No change in MAP sensor voltage. I checked the connection and sensor itself and voltage is fine.
So my next conclusion is it could possibly be the hose that connects from the intake to valve cover. It has been broken since ive owned the jeep. Never had a problem. Im not sure how to test that vacuum line or what else to diagnose. I can drive the jeep, it just has that slight decrease in power every few seconds.
I did a full tune in hopes all would sort itself out. I was wrong. Ive searched these forums along with jeepforums. Seems im the only person to ever have this problem...:winner:
Any input is appreciated
