Center Console

Hey guys, Im looking for a new center console for my TJ but I noticed that the only nice one are for the cjs due to the e-brake being located where it is. Does anybody have any ideas on where to get one. I checked qudtratec and found nothing good for the TJ's..Thanks guys

I opted not to go with the e-brake security console. I went with the tuffy overhead security console. I love it!

Those babies are $100 bucks more than the full tuffy. If you are going to get a good console go with the tuffy, we've had a couple in YJ's, modified the radio holder for a glock.

Thread resurrection... I don't want to start a new thread to ask a question about center consoles.

My newly purchased 2000 TJ has a half center console (like this). My question is can I just go out and buy an OEM or used "full center console" and do a quick swap?... with one like this

I sure hope the answer to your question, MrRiceGuyRJ, is "yes," because my full consoel (purchased on eBay) is supposed to arrive via Fedex on Jan 5th and that is exactly what I hope to do. I too have the half console with one drink holder, and wanted the longer one -- extra drink holder is nice on long trips and a little bit of extra storage space (even if its not "secure") would be great. I figured I'd attempt it, if I can't get the console to fit, I can always re-sell it.

Yes. I just did exactly what you described on a 2001. If you didn't originally have the full console you'll need to drill two holes under the rear cup holder for the mounting screws.

Well, my eBay center console arrived today.

I originally had the short one:

And this is how it looks once it is in (seat not back in yet):

I am looking forward to having TWO drink holders. LOL (I know, every low priority for a jeep, but still ....

I'm just thrilled to have drink holders again...whether it be one or two. I took the center console out of my truck years ago and never got around to putting a new one in...so I've been driving without any drink holders for the past 4-5 years. lol

just a warning dont put a drink in the first cup holder and shift into second without moving that cup. i smashed a cup open and got soda all over the place, even on the ceiling.

Can you do me a huge favor? Can you take a picture of what the inside of the center console looks like? Mine that I have is a big gaping hole, which is what I guess they're supposed to be, but the bonehead before me cut more holes into it!

Are you talking the inside storage compartment? It should have a place to store CD cases...but the lid flexes just enough to make the slim CD cases pop open whenever you lean on it causing your CDs to spill out...

Mine doesn't have CD storage ... just a white plastic box inside. Which is okay by me, as the stereo has a hookup for my iPod. If I had a hardtop I might actually store the iPod in there, or maybe the GPS ... no hardtop means empty storage. LOL

yea minds similar to that, there's no CD holder. It's just a big empty space.

NeitherFanBoy, Thanks for posting the pics. That's exactly what I'm looking for. Are you getting your center console rekeyed to work with your existing keys? If so, I'd greatly appreciate pics/details on that (especially if you DIY)

Hey MrRiceGuyRJ ... had not thought about rekeying it, and of course, it did not come with one. Will look into that tomorrow, but not sure if I will ever lock it? Seems like that would make thieves break into it thinking there was something good it there!

Okay, I put the driver's seat back in tonight ... what a PITA! The bolt in the rear, nearest the door, would not go in. Could turn it by hand until about half way in, and then with a wrench could not turn it with all my strength and was worried I would break it off. Tried all 3 of the bolts in that hole (even though they all look the same) [and not the 4th one because it's that annoying star thing).

After cursing and swearing and getting so mad that if Bambi had jumped into the path of my car I would have sped up, and then backed up just to make sure ... I finally gave up. 3 bolts now hold me in, and if I get into an accident, the seat will surely break loose and hurl me through the window to my death. Stupid effing bolt!

i hate it when shit like that happens, and that damn star shaped screw. well i was gonna add something to the re-keying but i cant remember what it was. oh yeah, that lock wont stop a determined thief. im pretty sure i could lock mine and rip it open with my bare hand. it just doesnt seem that sturdy. maybe im wrong but i can tell you im not locking anything of any value in mine.

I know on my 05 that one of the four bolts on each seat is bigger, but I'm not sure which one at the moment. I figured it out when I put my seat risers in.

Well, in mine the one that was bigger was the one with that star on the top (what the heck IS that called? lol) The other 3 all appeared to match threads and length, but none of them would go more than half way into that one hole. But I am still inordinately pleased with my console. Simple things for the simple minded. LOL

That fourth bolt is a Torx head machine bolt, a mechanic told me it's used there to keep thieves from stealing your seats, weird I know. Laters,

That's it, Torx! I could not remember that for the life of me. Knew it wasn't allen, but didn't feel like googling "stupid annoying bolt with star shaped opening." LMAO Thanks!
