Post Changing a U Joint with a C Clamp Walkthrough

I changed my U joint using a large C Clamp. I used a 13/16" socket, a pair of vice grips and needle nose pliers and a flat screw driver for the retainers. I also found a sweet log to rest my work on. I don't have a vise and always thought this would work well and it went really smooth. The pictures up loaded explain themselves. Installation went equally smooth and was exactly the same accept in reverse obviously. One thing I would like to note is to push it almost all the way through when installing the first cap to ensure the second bearing cap you are putting back visibly has all the needle bearings in the right place when put on the post, instead of just trying to force the cap through and hope they are still in the proper place when they get to the post. Hope this helps someone!

Great info!

It's hard to find a good piece of vice wood though.
