Changing tranny and diff fluid ?

My jeep has 140k miles on it and I do not know if the previous owner changed the fluids when the jeep hit 100k. I want to know how easy/difficult it is to change and if it is recommended. I know in some vehicles it is not recommended to change the tranny fluid. Also what other fluid besides the motor oil and radiator coolant should I be changing with this kind of mileage ? What brands are recommenced ? Thanks

If you can change the oil you can change the tranny and diff fluids.

I like to change ALL fluids when purchasing a used vehicle regaurdless of the milage. You never know how the vehicle was treated.

Here is a good write up for the diff fluid change ....
Differential Service

As for the transmission... also easy to change but with 140k I'd have the bands adjusted too.

Adjusting the bands is better left to be done by a transmission shop.

So what diff oil should I use ? I live in South Florida, I believe the heat will determine the type of oil I will use, no ? Also, what type of transmission fluid ? I have a 97 Sport Wrangler 4x4, auto, 145k miles.

1.8 quarts in each axle so you'll need 4 quarts for the f/r axles. To refill a completely empty 32RH tranny, torque converter, and tranny cooler, it's something like 9-10 quarts. I'd use a non-synthetic GL-5 or GL-6 in the axles and a synthetic ATF+4 in your transmission.
