Chattering during hill climb

During a recent trip to west Virginia I took my lj on some powerline roads. During a small hill climb about half way up I heard a chattering noise from underneath the jeep. It only lasted maybe 3 seconds and i didn't loose momentum. When iI did same hill climb i heard the noise again at basically same spot on hill. I didn't hear the noise any other time during the day. Could it have been some sort of traction control? Limited slip?

Was it almost stalling out?

Im in the same boat, my '05 TJ is also making this chattering sound under load. I noticed it while driving on the highway on a slight hill, now even around 35 mph i'll get it. My TJ is a 4.0L, 6-speed on stock 30" tires with no lift. I switched to synthic oil two changes ago and the oil pressure gauge shows good oil pressure. The jeep never feels like it will stall or any loss of power, WHAT IS THIS? -Todd

My lj is a 4.0 auto. It was not trying to stall. And the noise came from around the drive line.

Dont know if this is it but look at your exhaust system . On some hills around here I was getting a chatter it was the cat hitting my skid plate . It didn't do it all the time just when the rig was working up a hill .

Is it a suspension chatter or Like a engine ping? the 4.0 is known for engine ping. Mine does it along with about every other 4.0 I have been in when under slight load... I would try running high octane gas to see if that dont help any..

I heard the same darn thing this weekend.
I don't ever recall hearing it before, if you listen to this video carefully, you can hear it.
http://s292.photobucket.com/albums/m...t=100_9792.mp4
it's a tick tick tick tick tick tick
beats the hell outta me, but if this many people have it, maybe it's normal.

Whatever it is, it will either break and show me where it is or it's supposed to do it I guess.
Ignore the "skroink"
I already think I know what that is!

Ok, for the first time I put 89 octaine in the jeep, about $15 worth on a 1/4 tank of 87 octaine. Drove it around and bingo-bongo, no pinging or chattering from the engine. Our gas here in st. louis must be getting diluted with antifreeze or whatever preparing for winter. Yes, nothing major!
