'check Engine'

So I am relatively new to the Jeep world and have a question. Jeep is going on 118,000 miles and the check engine light turns on. Is this a simpile oil change reminder (I've barely put 3000 on it since I got it and it was serviced right before the purchase) or am I looking at something more severe?

could be anything. you have to plug in a code reader, read the fault code then see what problem the code translates to. some places like cottman transmission will do it for free.

I could prolly just take it to a dealership couldn't I? I have some other stuff I need checked out anyway. Has anyone ever had problems with their ignition? I either have two bad copies of keys or a messed up ignition bc i can take my keys out freely while the Jeep is running!!!

Local auto parts stores will read the codes for free and tell you what the problem is. There is a process for pulling the codes on your odometer display if your jeep is equipped with an odometer on board diagnostics system. This came on most wranglers but I am unsure of what years.
