Check Engine Light

I have a 2001 Jeep Wrangler Sahara. The check engine light came on today. I took it to Auto Zone and the code for the problem is P0455 (Evap large leak detected). This is probably a loose fuel cap. Does anyone else have any insight on this. Thanks for the help.

You are probably correct that it is fuel cap related. Was the fuel cap ever off when the engine was running or not screwed down tightly after you filled up? Either will cause that diagnostic code.

By the way, you can display your own diagnostic codes without the need to go to Autozone. Simply turn your ignition key on-off-on three times within five seconds (not to the Start position) and then leave the ignition switch in the final on position. After several seconds, have patience, any stored codes will start showing up in your odometer.

When you have a choice, buy American.

Had this happen on my 02 Wrangler. After I replaced mine, the check engine light stayed on so I disconnected the battery cable one night and the next morning the light was off and hasn't come back on.

I also have a 2001 Sahara and the check engine light goes on and off at different times with the same code you posted. I have replaced the fuel cap with a new OEM part and the problem still persists. No worries though. If you notice the Jeep runnig rough or getting even worse gas mileage than normal then I would get it checked out. Mine hase been going on and off for two years and it still runs fine.
Hold my beer! Buuurp!

Just happen in my silverado parts. First thing is check your gas cap and make sure it's tight. If it is and then light stays on you need to follow the line ( the smallest of the 3 lines coming out of the tank) to the engine and check for cracks in it or any possible leaks in it. You should have a diagram under the hood of the car. It should say EVAP System.
