Check Engine Light

Have a 2006 Jeep Wrangler X. Check engine light has come on 4 times since I bought it....5,000 miles. No problems. Have had it into the dealer and they keep telling me it is something else each time. Gas cap, this, that, etc.

Any ideas on what may keep causing this to happen. Thanks.

The gas cap is a strong possibility. Make sure when you gas up, you get it back on good. Since is is a new jeep, I think i would tell the dealer to give me a new gas cap.

Well like the boys above stated the cap not being tight will throw a code at you. However you mention 4 different times and then as you put it they told you it was "This, That, Etc..." Do you remember what any of the other issues were? Because those could be help in diagnosing any further issue you might be having.

Did you have it scaned to see what code is setting off the check engine light?

I had a check engine light on twice, I replaced the gas cap the first time and this year I believe I replaced an oxygen censor or something like it. I went to a local shop; they charged about 40 bucks to plug the computer in to see what the problem was and another few bucks to change it. :-)

yeah, its best to have codes read to narrow it down.

my light was on as "small emmissions evaporative leak" it ended up being the seal on the gas tank. tightened up the top seal and was good to go! diagnosing mine was farily easy because it smelled strong gas odor when full tank.

Just returned from my dealer for the famous "Check Engine Light" problem with my 2006 Wrangler X Although I had tightened and untightened my Fuel Cap several times , it didn't clear the light.
Dealer replaced cap with a new one and put the light out.
(still under warrantee)
The new cap has a printed warning that a loose cap can cause the light to go on.
Would be nice is the computer code would be able to be displayed on the odometer as it use to be on jeeps and other vehicles.
