check engine light

i have a 1999 tj, the check engine light decided that it wanted to come on today. anyone have any thoughts? I had read that you can run a diagnostic by doing the on off on off on thing, but i think that ended with the 98 models.

anybody have any ideas as to what the most common issue is with this?

I have a 2003 Sahara and it works with mine.
You can also go by Advance or Autozone and they will check it free.

Good Luck,
Tim

I have my own reader, between my kids and my own cars it was cheaper to buy my own. Stop by and I will pull the codes for you.

Have a pen and some paper ready to write the codes down.

Turn the key to the on position, but not to the start position. Turn off. Turn on again, then off again.
Finally turn back on and the codes will flash in the odometer.

You can find the trouble codes on this forum .

Hope this helps,
Tim
