Check Engine Light

I was driving down my road today, like I do everyday, and my Check Engine Light illuminated randomly. It says if it is a severe malfunction, it would blink, but it is just still. Any idea what would set this off? I already checked the gas caps and fluids...

You will need to find out what code it's putting out. Some auto parts places will do it for free. Once you have the code you can go from there.

Turn the key off-on-off-on-off-on and the code(s) will dispay in the odometer window.

It is P0456...looks like it is a gas cap code, but I already checked to make sure it was on tightly earlier...Any other ideas?

Might check the rubber hoses going from the filler neck to the tank itself....might have a crack in it

If it does have a crack, can I just tape it up tightly?

Just fixed it...I hope. It was probably the fuel cap so I disconnected the battery and drove it a couple miles and the light has yet to come on. Crossing my fingers

Could be a defective gas cap also.
