Angry Check Engine Light 'trick' NOT WORKING

Ok, I know... I know, there are a million posts on here that talk about how to check for the engine codes on the Jeeps.... but it aint working, I have a 99' and im trying the ol' "on-off-on-off-on" everyone says, but nothing happens. I can do the 'hold the odo button and watch your dash go crazy' trick, but i cant get my CEL to flash its code, not even the code 55 is showing up. I need help guys, my Jeep is acting up and i need to know whats wrong. Thanks everyone.

I've had codes that trip the check engine light, that wouldn't come up doing the self scan and had to physically hook a scan tool up to it. If your CEL is on and your not getting any P codes from the key trick, take it to a parts store that will scan and have them hook it up for you.

Yeah, my 98 wouldn't show a code. 2 mins at Auto Zone and I had the code.

Depending on where you're at, I've got an OBD2 code reader.
