Check engine light w/ error code P0441, anyone???

Engine light came on today and was ironically passing Advanced Auto so I stopped and they ran the code.

P0441, EVAP Emission Control System Purge Flow Fault.

Anyone have a good idea where I should start to fix this? Thanks

Did a little researching and discovered that a loose/bad gas cap is almost always responsible for this code (as you suggested ) so gas cap has been replaced. 20 miles since then and check engine light is still on, but I'm hopeful in the next few days it'll go out. Come the weekend, if it hasn't gone out I'm gonna disconnect the battery overnight (to reset the 'puter), see what happens then.

The light will usually stay on for ~40 iginition cycles unless reset with a programmer. You can swing by a Checker/Autozone and have them erase the code for you.

Clearing the codes isn't a bad idea. If the problem is still there it will definitely light back up, and if not you are good to go!

So, leaving the battery disconnected overnight won't reset the computer/clear the codes?

It will, but you'll have to re-program your clock and radio stations.

That code is saying that the engine is not getting more fuel when it opens the purge valve to purge the charcoal canister. The gas cap code is a small or large evap leak code

No it wont. That is totally crazy. It runs the tests pretty much every time you drive it. Once it passes, it will reset the code.

Unplugging the battery for >30 sec will reset everything,

Must be nice to have an AutoZone that will reset them for you! Every time I go and ask, they always tell me they aren't allowed and feed a line of crap about "liability". :headshake:
Battery disconnect and radio reprogram for me every time!
