Wondering if this happens to others or what the cause might be. My "Check Gauges" light comes on when I start the engine. Sometimes it beeps once or twice and sometimes it beeps up to five time. Sometimes it doesn't come on at all. Fluid levels appear to be fine. I purchased this TJ 2 months ago and haven't checked the manual transmission fluid level yet. It's on my list to drain and change, but other than that, I've changed all other fluids.
It is alerting you to check the gauges. Are all of your gauges working when the light comes on?. Specifically, is the oil pressure gauge showing no deflection (zero) when the check gauge is lit? The sending unit malfunction is fairly common.
Yes, all the gauges appear to be working properly. Temp, oil, gas, and battery. All appears to be in order. I'll do a search for "sending unit." I figured it was malfunctioning. The owners manual isn't very detailed regarding this, but I beeline that the "check gauges" indicator would remain on if there was truly an issue?
Mine came on two days in a row about a month ago (a couple days after after an oil change.....coincidence??) as soon as I started it, the light came on, noticed zero oil pressure, restarted it and the light was out and oil pressure good. Like I said , two days in a row and nothing since.
Read through other forum posts and, as you mentioned, the oil pressure send unit is common to go bad. Apparently, it's an easy fix (unscrew, disconnect wire harness, and replace with new) and recommended to use OEM part. It's located near the oil filter. I'll replace at next oil change. Thanks!

I wouldn't replace it without knowing that the oil pressure gauge is sitting at zero when the check gauge light is on. Until this happens you would be wasting your time and money. Also, I would remove it and clean the sensor and re-install before replacing. Cleaning it has worked for others.
Very likely a faulty oil pressure sender indicating intermittent 0 oil pressure which will cause the Check Gauges alarm. It's a common issue with the oil pressure sender. I'd avoid cheap aftermarket replacement senders like from AutoZone which are known for causing even more problems.
Try to remember to look at the gauges quickly when you hear the check gauges beep. The check gauges beep and light only comes on with high / low voltage, low oil pressure and high temp reading.
Knowing which one is causing this will tell you where to start looking. My check gauges starting going off once in a while and it turned out to be a broken battery terminal. The voltage would drop causing the "Beep" to be heard.
I agree with Jerry that if it turns out to be the oil pressure sensor and you need to replace it, buy a high quality one. Before you run out and buy new parts, check all the connections, grounds etc...
Thanks everyone. I'm keeping an eye on the gauges. Temp and oil appear to be fine. I've been having some slow start ups here and there. Maybe battery related. I'll have the battery tested and terminals looked at.
I had a similar problem. The oil gauge went up slowly when the vehicle was started and dropped to zero at idle (sometimes). I replaced the oil pressure sender today and that solved the problem. If you replace the sender, you will need a 27mm deep socket.
Replaced my sender as well today. You don't have to buy a deep a socket if you don't have one. You can get to it with channel locks, that's what I did.
My 01 does the check gauges beep and light every now and then on startup. Mine is because the oil pressure is just a bit slow to begin reading but only every now and then. The check gauges light and beep is what is affectionately called an "idiot" light in my neck of the woods.
Mine does the exact same. I replaced my sending unit with the cheap parts store one and it didn't fix it. Need to buy the Mopar one
