Check gauges light on a 2005 jeep wrangler ** help please**

I have a question. My check gauges light recently came on. After my last oil change, I was already aware that I needed a new battery, so I went out and had a new battery installed yesterday (4/2/10). The light is still on. It runs great without any problems. Is there a way I can try to reset it myself and see if it goes out, before I go and spend the $70 at Firestone it will cost me, to have them hook up that little hand held device, and give me a code. I know I can go to autozone or somewhere like that, and they can hook up their machine, but is it the same one and will it be able to give me the same information? Thanks in Advance!!

I'm not sure if you can reset it yourself, but most autoparts stores like Advance, or Autozone will clear read and clean codes for free.

You can buy a code reader for less than 60.00 bucks and it'll tell u any problems u have and u can reset so the check engine light goes out. My light comes on after I fill up the gas tank. Small and large evap leak. I reset it for awhile but I noticed the light goes out by itself after I burn off a half a tank. I now ignore the Light

Try resetting the gauges. Hold the odometer/trip button in while turning the key to the "on" postion without starting it. You'll see the gauges go through a test phase. After it's done start it up and see what happens/

WOW! the things I can learn just from reading the posts, I just did that on my Jeep (01 automatic trans) and all the lights and gages moved one at a time, including the shift up arrow for standard transmissions

Thanks man, now I can see whats what next time I see a flaw on the dash

Can I do this just to make sure all the lights work? Or will it mess something up?

I did it last night and nothing is messed up at all, just let it run through its cycle before you start the Jeep. I took the key out after mine was done and put it back in to start it.

You can do it anytime you want won't hurt a thing. I do it periodically to see if there are any problems with the gauges. If you have a bad gauge you will see that it doesn't respond like the others and can be replaced.

And doing it every now and then beats the hell out of not doing it and having a bad oil pressure gage.

Ok, question... I just did this, since I got the Check Gauges warning today. Ran through the lights and stuff and everything looked ok, except maybe the oil pressure gauge. It only went up to just over half way. What the heck does that mean? Is my gauge bad, or my sending unit, or what. I started it after clearing the gauges and I still get the check gauges warning.... Help, please, I don't wanna blow my baby up. I just had the oil changed in her the other day too, could they have dinked something up?

Who did it you and the hubby or a shop? if it was a shop yea they could have dinked it up, check the oil make sure the level is right, then check the pressure sending unit wires and make sure they are fully plunged in ( I unplug mine to access the filter better). If those are good then it is more than likely a bad sending unit

Thanks Wolfen, I had it done at a shop.... It really is about as cheap as me trying to get hubby to do it... Any idea where I'll find those wires? The guys where I had it changed already tried to sell me a boat load of stuff I don't need, so I don't want to take it back to them, as they'll tell me for sure I need a new sending unit, whether I do or not....

Yea I bet they would, When I worked at Tread Quarters we use to have a bunch of people who came from Pep Boys with problems that didn't really exist.
If your Jeep has a 2.5 the pressure sending unit is right there by the filter and Dist, on the 4L if I remember right its on the spark plug side of the engine near the firewall down low

my check gauges light came on while I was doing 75 on the interstate, it came on because my oil pressure tanked, but the jeep was running fine, so I assumed it was a sending unit problem.
