"Clicking sound"

Hi All,

My search for a decent TJ continues. I test-drove one today and the owner let me take it home for the night. It's a 2003 X model. Everything went fine on the drive home except I noticed a dinstinct clickind sound coming from the engine compartment after a few miles on the road. Once I got home I popped the hood and, sure enough, about every 10-15 seconds a clicking sound would originate from somewhere in the back of the engine compartment followed by another one about 1 second later, the latter one seemed to come from the fan belt area.

I will look at it more closely later this afternoon, but I was wondered if any of you had any insight as to what it could be.

Thanks again!

Could be a pulley bearing. But I'd look at the manifold real close. Look for any cracks. just mite be the sound your hearing.

Or just out of curiosity... was the A/C on? If so it was probably just the compressor cycling.

Did you have the A/C or defroster on?

You guys are right... took another look at it just now and the sound appears only when the AC is set to the recirculate option.

Many thanks.

Try living in Vegas with no AC did it 10 years 5 in a wrangler with the top off. I turned into a big sissy cause I got one with a AC and hard top. Now its too much of a pain in the butt to take the hard top off
