Clunking (First Post)

Well I've been searching the forum for some useful info about my clunking with no help yet.

Here is my problem, when I'm slowing/gearing down I hear a clunking sound coming from about the middle underneath of my jeep. Any thoughts are directions to look into?

Thanks in advance.

Vilhelm

Off the top of my head I would check your driveshaft u-joints for starters.

What should I be looking for? Anything specific or just a lose connection and wear and tear?

You can also check your control arm bushings. My jeep clunks all the time because my comtrol arm bushings are shot.

What are the specs on your jeep? Stock, lifted, year?

hmm... to many factors. lets cut it down, what has been done to your jeep?

the very first thing that comes to mind (because it happened to me) is that your exhaust is "clunking" against your driveshaft.

is yours a manual or auto? start with some details.

Look for the caps coming lose or play in the shafts themselves. maybe have somebody walk next to the jeep, (with the jeep going slow) and come to a stop and see what they can see or hear etc.

Its a 5-speed manual, nothing has been done to it, except me swtiching out my waterpump last week.

Well I know my exhaust is a bit loose but Im too strapped to switch that out at the moment. But I will have a look to see if its been rubbing anywhere or bouncing off the drive shaft.

Thanks, I crawled under and took a look under the jeep and this is what I found.

U-Joints all tight with caps intact.
Muffler loose as a XXXL shirt and signs of rubbing on my drive shaft, I will fix that and see if it stops.

Thanks
