Clutch Pedal linkage clip?

Ok while riding this past weekend I went to press in the clutch (98 2.5 5spd) and there was a slight pop and the pedal went all the way to floor and was at that point just freely swinging back and forth unattached to anything. While feeling around up in there found a small plastic clip that was broken right where the clutch pedal arm itself slips over some type of small protrusion in the linkage. I was able to (you're going to love this) slip the pedal back over the little pin and wrap a bread tie around the groove where the plastic clip once was. From there I was able to complete the trail ride with no probs.
Now I want to fix this thing right, but have no idea what that little clip is. I will add a pic later today when I get home. I would rather find a metal c clip or something which seems to be a better idea that a tiny piece of plastic.
I physically can't see where the pedal attached due to my 6ft 250lb body doesn't fit in the footwell so easily, I did all of this just by feel alone.
Has anyone experienced this and know of a good fix? It seems real odd that the clutch could be rendered useless by a dime sized piece of brittle plastic.

I had the same problem and we are the same exact size I know how you feel it sucks breaking that little clip. I just went to the stealership and they gave me one. Don't remember how much though. Trust me I know how hard it is to get in there.

Ok got it done, although the 7/16 c clip as suggested in the above link was too small. Ended up going with a wire tie, which actually fits the groove in the pin better than a c clip would.

This is what my son did for me on Fathers Day, got the clutch pedal back good to go and then we went for a great off road trip.

This happened on my 2006 TJ driving to Home Depot of all places.
1/2" washer and 7/16 E-Clip solved it. I used the original plastic part as a bushing.
What a bad design - unbelievable. I wanted to use a snap-ring, but sizes didn't work.
The shaft size is ~ 0.43 and the groove is ~ 0.38.
