So I was driving home from work and my Jeep died. I tried starting it but it would just crank over but not start. I thought I would roll down the hill and pop the clutch to no avail. I rented a scanner from Autozone and got codes P0340 and P0171. After several days of getting parts and replacing the cam shaft sensor, crank shaft sensor, distributor cap and rotor it still didn't start.
My buddy stopped by because I was past my mechanical expertise per se and we determined that I was not getting any spark at the spark plug. We pulled the #1 spark p,ug and turned it over and no spark. We pulled the distributor cap and noticed the rotor didn't turn when cranked over. So we pulled the distributor and noticed half of the teeth on the lower gear were worn off. I just bought a distributor and we are waiting to reinstall it and fire it up.
