Code P0464

Sorry to start a new thread on codes but I searched and didn't find one on this yet. It says Fuel level sensor circuit intermittent. Any body know exactly what that means? I know my gas guage ain't never right, is this it? If so, how do ya fix it, or do ya just keep putting fuel in?

Wouldn't that just mean that your fuel level sensor is toast?

Yep, the sending unit on the fuel pump (yeah, in the gas tank) is shot.

If it was a full time error, I'd suspect a short, but...

The thing that sucks is that now you have to ignore the fuel gauge AND the CEL...

Soooo, it's located in the tank huh? Which means i will have to spend an arm and a leg to replace it since I have not ever dropped a tank and messed with this kinda thing.

It's actually just a pain. It's not that hard, especially if you have a spare set of hands to assist with getting the tank off and back up.

The FSM has the procedure in there to do it and I just recommend getting a new fuel filter and pump while your in there (I think the sending unit is part of the pump anyway).

Let me know if you want and I'll post the procedure if you can't find it.

I may have to give it a go. Another project for another day, I'm still trying to get my dash and stuff back together after painting over the puke tan it came with.

Replacing the fuel pump is really not that difficult. I just did mine in my 98 2.5L. Just make sure you run the tank as dry as possible, so it is easier to lower the tank. I had to replace my pump because I kept getting a code for small evap leak. I figured there must be something wrong at the pump, because I could always smell raw fuel. The plastic pieces on the top of the pump where the wires go through were all broken away, & you could see right down into the tank. That was obviously my evap leak.Something strange that happened during all of this was, I called the dealer & gave them the last 8 digits of my VIN to find out what size tank I had. They told me it was a 15 gallan tank,so I bought a pump for a 15 gallon. The pump that came out looked different than the one I bought. So I called them again & they told me again that it had a 15 gallon tank. So I gave them the part number that was on the side of the tank, & they said that part number was for a 19 gallon tank. Don't know how that happened but I have a 19 gallon tank in a Jeep that was supposed to have come with a 15 gallon. Airtex Online Parts Catalog
