Coolant Consumption

I've got an 01, 4.0L, 5 spd. She's been losing coolant at a rapid pace. The canister will completely empty itself within three weeks or so if I don't refill it. No spots on the driveway at home or my parking spot at work so I fear it's consuming it.

I'm thinking blown head gasket. Any other ideas?

Had this happen with a small, pinhole leak in the radiator. You couldn't see it normally, it would shoot a fine mist when the engine was hot and mostly disappear, no puddle or drip. Found it eventually because the residue started to build up in that area.

When it's running, stick your nose by the tail pipe and sniff. Does it smell sweet? If so, then you are looking at either a head gasket or a cracked head.

Experienced this myself. I fill my overflow tank to the fill line and it will be gone in a couple days. Same thing no puddles or obvious leaks. I will check the fluid level too and i have at times added up to 1/4 gallon of coolant but it never drops below that level. Haven't touched it in months and its probably at that same level. I never overheat or anything. I gave up, let us know if ya find anything!

Bet ya its the head gasket. You may have coolant leaking in to the engine oil. Go sniff that tailpipe.

I think mine is doing something similar... It goes through coolant, but not that fast. I did notice the other day, when I cleaned it up, that the hood had coolant all over the inside of it... (The shop just flushed it and refilled so it's nice and green right now). Was looking at the radiator and noticed that a spot on the inside (facing the engine) and the outside (facing the front) had some green coolant on it. I have a feeling there's a couple little holes in there, and when I drive the coolant is blowing through the fan and getting all over the rest of the engine....

Sounds like you need a new radiator. Take it back to the shop and have them pressure test it.
