Coolant Recovery Bottle

I was doing a radiator flush last night and took my overflow bottle off to clean it out good. I noticed some weird tape around the bottle which I assumed marked the "full" line. Welllllll it didnt. That "weird" tape was there to seal a tear in the bottle above the full line. So for now I just used duct tape around the bottle to cover the hole. First question is will having a hole in the upper portion of the bottle effect the "closed" nature of the coolling system or should I replace, maybe the duct tape will be sufficient but I dont know. Second, who makes our recovery tanks so I can replace it (besides Jeep at 45 dollars!). Seems like the TJ's are hard to find if at all but all models before ours are everywhere.

I don't think it'll hurt anything.. it has a hole in it anyway in the form of a built in overflow tube next to the cap. It's built to operate with air freely going in and out. It's worth replacing at some point, but I'd say you'd be fine since it's above the fill line.

I would get some 2 part epoxy and plug it up. You can have it fixed for like 3.99

+1. The overflow container isn't the biggest of things to be worried about.

As your Jeep heats up the water in the raditor will expand and flow into the coolant recovery bottle. It's at that point that you need to worry about the location of the hole. Checking the level cold proves nothing.
