Cranks but will not start

2001 Wrangler with 4.0 (auto trans). Engine cranks but will not start. I tried to pull codes but PCM will not communicate with my code reader. Check engine light is on as well as low fuel light. Gas will shoot out when I press valve on fuel rail. Oil pressure gauge was not working properly prior to starting problem - would read very low at idle but normal when engine revved. Have replaced the sending unit. I disconnected the battery to try to reset PCM but no change. Any ideas as to what might be the problem?

worst case seniero you might have a fried ECM\PCM i had this same problem on a customers durango (cranked good had fuel pressure but 0 comms between ECM\PCM and scanner) a few questions that might help

#1 what type of scanner are you using?
#2 did you jumpstart it or use it to jumpstart anyone?
#was there any warning prior to the no start?

#1 what type of scanner are you using? AUTOXRAY EZ-READ 2000 (worked on this vehicle previously)
#2 did you jumpstart it or use it to jumpstart anyone? NO
#was there any warning prior to the no start? NO

If ECM/PCM is fried what is approximate cost to replace?

O man idk I never priced one for a Jeep I would check ROCKAUTO.COM they seem to have really good prices OEM stuff but before you start stressing too much you might check your cam position sensor (below the coil rail where the distributer was located on eairler models) my xj quit on me once and I had blew the guts out of that sensor

Problem was bad Crankshaft Postion Sensor. Apparently, bad CPS disrupts communication between ECM/PCM and code reader. Replaced CPS and now runs fine and code reader works.

Glad you got it back up and running. Good info that it interrupts the code reader, I wouldn't have guessed that....
