Cruise Control/ Revving Issue

Alright. I have 05 jeep wrangler unlimited with a 4.0. I was recently over in bend Oregon. Temperatures where dropping around too -15-15 degrees most nights. My cruise control has intermittently stopped working. And when that stops working it also hits the rev limiter whenever I accelerate to 3400 rpms. Some times it works and whenever it is working I do not have the rev limiter issue. It has been going on and off for the last month. Like today I started it up and tried turning on the cruise control the turned on and off has I pushed the button. Then I went for a drive each time I turned on the cruise control it turned on and I was able to remove my foot from the skinny pedal. I also tested the rev limiter while I was driving. Its easily raved up to the standard 5000-6000 rpm. Then after about 15 minutes of driving I tested the cruise control again. Now it would not turn on the dash or actively work. I also tested the Rev limiter at this time. It would only rev up to 3400 rpms. It turns on and off as intermittently. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Turn the CC off and don't use it anymore, it's really a silly feature on a old TJ anyways.
Also, if you keep messing around and bouncing it off of the RL you're going to blow the motor. That thing isn't a spring chicken anymore.

I wish the problem could be fixed as simple as to turn off or not use the cruise control. The revving issue happens regardless on it own as well as the cruise control. Its just whenever the cruise control won't work that is also when the revving issue happens and vice versa. Thanks for the input though. My jeep has a 6 speed and around 110,000 miles on it. Just thought that was all worth mentioning. Any help appreciated.

Is your check engine light on.......fyi when you start your jeep the instrument warning lights should do a self test. Is it coming on briefly and then going out?

Unfortunately my check engine light has been on for along time. Little emission hose from the fuel tank got a cut in it a couple years ago. When you turn on the vehicle the cruise control on the dash always lights up and then turns off like the rest of the dash lights. But then only some times when I push the button to activate it does it turn on. It has also turn off on my while I was cruising at 70 one day. Just kicked out of cruise control and would not turn back each time I tried push the button.
