curious gas gauge question.

I sit me or does the gas gauge on a 2000 wrangler seem to move faster the first half of the tank then slower the second. What i mean is even when filling up. from E $10 will give me very little. but from half a tank on $10 seems to give me a lot. Also while driving with a full tank the first half of the tank i can maybe go 60 miles then the other half from half to E i can go about 120ish. Also, when im at E and fill up the jeep only takes about 11 gallons to fill, Isnt the tank on a 2000 wrangler a 19 gallon tank? does that mean i have 8 more gallons as a reserve? Main reason i ask is becasue when i first test drove this wrangler at the dealer funny enough when i got in and started it the dealer had let the gas gauge go well below E. Thank god i made it to a gas station. Any thoughts?

All gas gauges do that.... Don't know why, but they do.

I have noticed that to.. My gas gauge is the same way. but Mines usually about 50 the first half and about 75-100 the second half. So i only get about 125-150 miles a gallon maybe about 11 miles a gallon.. and I thought my tank was bigger as well...But its only about 14-15 gallons. I dont understand it...Love the jeep but bad gas mileage haha!

If you hop into a 60's-70's Ford you'll see why gas gauges are now pessimists.

Back then the gauge would basically do the opposite. and once it hit E the car would stall. so now they hit E, and will go 20-50miles.

Typically the "low fuel light" means you have somewhere around 2 gals. left. The Jeep is extra pessimistic.

This is because of how the float works. When at empty and filling, the float is pointing more vertical, and the $10 of fuel moves it very little.
When the tank is fuller, the float is more horizontal, so the same $10 of fuel moves it further.

Did you change out the speedo gear when you went with bigger tires? If not your odo is off as well and so are your mpgs.

The gas tank is a 19 gallon tank, its the same as the older ones, they shortened the fill tube to make the pump think it is fuller faster. I have ran mine quite awhile after the dummy light came on, and when filling I get 17 to 18 gallons on the pump.(not to say the pump is right). Try this, like on an episode of Seinfeld, run that beeyyottcchh as far past E as you can, then fill up. see how much it takes to fill up. Let us know........
