D35 Axle Shaft play

Ok I am going to do my best to describe this situation. About 2 weeks ago I installed, with some friends help, a Lock Rite locker into my D35. I know, I know I am asking for trouble....but anyway...here is my situation.

I have about 3/8 of an inch play in each axle shaft, meaning that the axle shaft moves back and forth about 3/8 of an inch on either side. I have asked a few folks for what they think it may be and I have gotten responses from it is normal to I have no idea.

Can some of you fine guys and gals help me out with my situation. I am likely cracking open the diff today to see if there is anything we missed. But I would like some suggestions on what to look for.
.
Thanks in Advance

In-out axle play is 100% normal and is actually required for the c-clip equipped Dana 35c. The axleshaft normally stays positioned in its outward position but may occasionally be pushed in somewhat when driving (like turning up into a driveway) resulting in an audible clunk. The reason it needs to be able to be pushed in is so you can get the c-clips out when you need to pull the axle shaft out for maintenance. Pushing the axle shaft inward exposes the c-clip so it can be removed, otherwise the c-clip normally stays inside a little recessed area in the carrier so it can't come out.

He's absolutely right. You'll find that with any C-Clip axle. As long as you have the c-clips in place you are fine.
