D35 spider gears

I was changing the oil in my diffs today and noticed a few of the teeth on the spider gears were chewed up pretty good on my D35. I've been having a howling sound when cruising at highway speeds and thought it was the R&P. The ring and pinion looked good which surprised me because I was sure that's where the sound was coming from...can spider gears also howl/whine?

My TJ is still under warranty but i'd rather save the money from my deductible/car rental and do the gears myself. But if that's not the cause of the sound i'd rather just bring it in and have them hunt it down...and replace the gears

Any tips or tricks on replacing the spider gears?

Spider gears only rotate when one wheel spins or you go around a corner. They don't move while in mesh when going straight down the road.

Crap...so much for that being the howl then. Hmmm, guess i'll just bring her in and see what they say. Damn it I hate when other people work on my rig.

Often the howl is a sign that a pinion bearning is bad...it could have disingrated and did some damage to the spider gears.

Youtube has lots of videos. Even the the Spartan and Aussie locker video's will show you how to remove the spider gears.
