I'm changing the gears in my TJ and looking for some different opinions on what type carriers everybody is running in the front of their jeeps. I'm torn between a Truetrac or a Detroit Locker. Don't really want a selectable locker. I'm running 35's and Truetrac says they don't recommend anything taller than 33's. Any opinions?
My son and I installed an Aussie Locker in his D30 several months ago. After driving it for a few months and a couple of times off road, he's very pleased with it.
Having run front and rear Truetracs offroad for 3+ years, never again. They were great on the street and easy trails but I ended up replacing them both with lockers. Yes I knew how to use the brakes to help them to engage better, I have even written how to use that technique. After replacing them with true lockers, there was a NIGHT AND DAY improvement offroad. A dramatic improvement, no comparison.
For the front, I'd go Aussie, Lockrite, or No-Slip. Aussie and Lockrite only click a bit when in 2wd on the street, the No-Slip for about $100 more doesn't even click. All three are totally benign when on the street in 2wd.
X3 on the Aussie, the only time I ever hear mine is turning in 4wd
