dana 44 question

There is a guy in town who wants $100 for a Dana 44 out of a wagoneer. How much fab work is involved in shortening this thing down to fit my TJ?

It will require a bit of work, even if you leave it stock, to get it under your TJ. You will have to fabricate brackets for all of your suspension (control arms, track bar, spring buckets). If you are shortening it, you are also looking at custom axle shafts and some more fabrication on your end. It can be done, just takes some work.

If you have to ask what it is or what it does, you don't need it, and you will need help to install it!

wait and get one out of an XJ or a ford 8.8. itll be easier and cheaper in the long run.

i would only bother with all the time that it takes to shorten an axle and put new mounts on it if it were a d60, which i am in the middle of cutting to go in my jeep. i know the d60 is ALOT more axle than the wrangler needs but i am tired of breaking the damn d35 and i got the d60's for free out of a ford f350. next is an auto trans and a NP241OR transfer case and a RE 5.5 LA lift kit. it is my dd so thats probably as crazy as ill go.

Not to mention that the Waggy D44 has a different bolt pattern.

Don't bother man, like stated, get a D44 out from an XJ, TJ or even an 8.8 from a Ford Explorer.

the 241 is nice because it will hold up to my eventual goal of putting a 4bt motor in my jeep. the 241 is designed to handle a LOT of torque and so will hold up to the turbo diesel. sorry for thread jacking.
