Dana 44 Swap

So I'm trying to find a Dana 44 to swap into my 99 Jeep TJ. I've found a few donors, but want to make sure I'm looking at the correct vehicles.

One is a 1995 Ford F-150. It's only $50 and the truck runs and everything. I know the front is a Dana 44, but I don't know if I'm able to swap that into the rear?

The other is a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo, which should have the rear 44

Also, what other vehicles can I look at? And how difficult is this swap that I'm looking at?

The Isuzu does have a rear D44, but there isn't a whole lot of aftermarket support, and it's a 6-lug versus a 5-lug like the TJ. As far as the Ford axle, if it's a front D44, it should stay in the front. If I were you, I'd be looking at XJ Cherokee's and other TJ's for an easier D44 swap. You could also look at Scouts and Wagoneers, but both of these axles will have different lug patterns and widths. Your best bet would really be to find a Ford 8.8 from an Explorer. You'd still need to weld on all the TJ brackets, but at least it will be of similar width and have the same lug pattern.

For the Cherokee, were all XJs w/ Dana 44s? I found a wrecked near me for $500, and also to swap out the axle what exactly am I looking at doing?

edit: I found what I'm looking for I think.

It's a 1990 Cherokee for $500. I've looked it up, and if I'm right, it's the 1987-1990 XJ that came with a Dana 44 rear axle w/ a 3.54:1 gearing ratio. Do you think I should go ahead and change the gearing ratio for it if I pick this up?

Not all XJ's had D44's. Most had D35's and Crysler 8.25's.

not all of the cherokees had the d44 you need to look at the axle to tell which one it is, you want to find the metal fill plug. you MUST!!! match gear ratios on the front and rear axle or you can not use 4x4!!! also if you get an axle out of anything other than a 97-06 wrangler you are going to have to weld on the wrangler control arm brackets. cherokees and anything that you will find a ford 8.8 out of, if you want to go that route, use a leaf spring rear suspension. you have to either cut the leaf brackets off of the axle and weld on the tj brackets or convert your tj to a leaf spring rear, might as well use it as a good excuse to streach the wheel base a few inches if you go that route.

RE9969 - TJ AXLE BRACKET KIT REAR - Rubicon Express axle brackets, theres cheaper ones out there but i like how thick these are.
